JODY WATLEY to many is a true living legend. As a pop icon and trendsetter, her history speaks for itself. Jody began her career in 1977 as an original member of Shalamar, the revered Pop and R&B group known for such classics as “A Night To Remember” and “Second Time Around.” After departing the group in 1984, Watley embarked on a remarkable solo career that earned her a GRAMMY AWARD for BEST NEW ARTIST in 1988 and yielded such international hits as “Looking For A New Love,” “Real Love” and the groundbreaking hip hop classic “Friends,” among others. She has had 6 Top Ten Billboard Hot 100 Pop Hits and 15 Top Forty Billboard R&B Hits. Add to this her participation in Sir Bob Geldof’s history making BAND AID project alongside Bono, Sting, George Michael and Duran Duran, her trendsetting videos (Watley remains one of the most nominated female artists for the MTV Video Music Awards) and iconic style and it’s easy to see how Watley helped define a generation while securing her place in popular music history. Fast forward to 2008 – BILLBOARD honored Watley with its prestigious LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD after scoring her 13th #1 single (be it Pop, R&B or Dance) with “I Want Your Love,” which topped the Billboard Hot Dance / Club Play chart in June 2007. Her brilliant cover of the CHIC classic went on to top the UK Dance Play Chart in January 2008. With millions of records sold, critical acclaim and countless multi-format hit singles, Jody Watley continues to chart a peerless path as an innovative and stylish entertainer, enjoying a brisk touring schedule with sold out shows and appearances, including intimate venues, club and theatre shows and jazz and music festivals. Watley resides in the Los Angeles area where she oversees her various businesses and projects, including her own imprint, Avitone Recordings. She is currently working on her tenth studio album, “Chameleon.”
